Subscription versus your own API key
This compares two ways of working the same way — in an IDE or CLI, where BYOK tools make a direct API key a real option. It is not a claim that subscriptions are cheaper than the API in general.
No API price to compare against
Usage terms
Quoted from the vendor's own terms. We do not give legal advice.
The subscription is consumed inside CodeBuddy itself — "Credits are the unit of consumption for AI operations in CodeBuddy. Every interaction consumes credits based on task complexity and model used." — and the plan issues no key of its own for use elsewhere. A third-party model runs on your own credentials, configured through models.json, whose "apiKey" field takes the "API key (actual key value, not environment variable name)".
